Change to Mass Intention Guidelines

Our parishes are blessed to have many people seeking to offer Masses for their loved ones. However, this has made it nearly impossible for us to offer Masses for parishioners in a timely manner. To best serve all parishioners, we have lessened the number of Masses able to be offered by a household. Please see below for the new guidelines.

Thank you for your understanding,

Fr. Schultz

New Guidelines:

A household may schedule 10 Masses per year with 3 being on weekends. The Masses may all be for the same person or a variety of people, but only 10 may be scheduled.

The stipend (cost) is $10 per Mass. Stipends must be paid within two weeks of scheduling or the Masses will be released.

Reconciliation

The Sacrament of Reconciliation is a changing of heart away from sin and back towards God. As the priest leads you through the sacrament, you will confess your sins, and then he will absolve (forgive) you of them. It is encouraged to spend some time in prayer and reflection both before and after receiving the sacrament.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation is offered at St. Patrick Church of Merna on Fridays from 12 pm-4 pm. Confessions are held in the church, in the confessional marked, “Fr. Matt”. If you have any questions, please call the parish office at (309) 662-7361.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation is offered in-person at St. Mary Church in Downs for 30 minutes after each weekend Mass: Saturdays, beginning at 6:30 pm and Sundays, beginning at 10:00 am.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation can be received outside these times by calling the parish office at (309) 662-7361 to make an appointment based on the priest’s availability.
