YOUTH MINISTRY

Youth Ministry is not something a parish creates to draw or entertain youth.  It’s not a program.  Youth Ministry is exactly what it sounds like – it’s youth taking part in active ministry for Jesus and His Church.  It’s amazing to see youth selflessly reaching out, drawing people to Jesus and helping those in need.

There are many people engaged in active ministry at St. Patrick.  Here are the active ministries led by or involving youth of our parish:

7pm Music Team

Every Sunday night at the 7pm Mass, youth share their musical gifts with our community – both vocal and instrumental.  This ministry aides in worship at Mass and the music is contemporary.  If you would like to take part in this ministry, contact Melanie Burns at mmburns2@comcast.net.

Adoration Music Team

Adoration immediately follows the 7pm Mass on first Sundays of the month.  All are invited to come.  The Adoration Music Team plays praise and worship music during the 30 minutes of Adoration.  If you would like to take part in this ministry, contact Matt Stewart at mrstew@ilstu.edu.

Social Media Team

The use of social media is critical in reaching young people today.  The Social Media Team seeks to use social media to creatively reach and engage other youth in our community.  If you would like to take part in this ministry, email ryan@stpatrickmerna.org and a youth leader will contact you.

Group Leaders for Jr High Classes

All junior high religious education classes are divided into groups of 6-8 students.  Each group has a leader and a co-leader who helps the group engage with the material and with each other.  This ministry is limited to those in high school or older.  If you would like to learn more about being a Group Leader, contact Ryan Purcell at ryan@stpatrickmerna.org.

Events

Parish Garage Sale

In the summer of 2016, there will be a parish-wide garage sale with 100% of the proceeds going toward the efforts of St. Vincent de Paul to serve the needs of those less fortunate in our community.  If you are interested in helping to plan or take part in this ministry, contact Ryan Purcell at ryan@stpatrickmerna.org.

Catholic Heart Work Camp

Each year, youth from our parish take part in a one week summer mission trip to help those less fortunate.  In the summer of 2016, youth will be going on mission to Muskegon, MI.  If you are interested in taking part in a CHWC or would like to plan future trips, contact Karen Kenney at kkenney@blmcchs.org.

Reverse Collection

Each year between Thanksgiving and Christmas, our parish takes part in the Reverse Collection as the collection baskets are passed at all weekend Masses filled with colored slips of paper.  Each colored slip details the needs of one of four local charities.  Support of these charities comes in piles as parishioners bring back the needs listed.  If you are interested in helping to plan next year’s Reverse Collection, email ryan@stpatrickmerna.org.

Poinsettia Delivery

Each year, on a Saturday in Advent, families of our parish reach out to deliver poinsettias to parishioners age 70 or older.  Those who deliver and those who receive are thrilled to be a part of this event.  If you are interested in helping to plan next year’s delivery, email ryan@stpatrickmerna.org.
